Today was a fabulous day for me because I finally got out and went swimming...the first real exercise I have had since I broke my leg...and the only exercise I can manage on one foot. The day was warm and beautiful and I feel wonderful. You would think that would translate into a great painting, but it didn't. This is my grandson who is 2 and shares a love of painting...but my brushwork was off for some reason and I waffled about color choices....oh well...still a good day.

It Looks Like.... 6x6 oil #265 (Bouguereau)

I just got back from a week in NC where the weather was perfect except for the tornadoes. It was a wonderful and restful time, but I did not do as much painting as I had wanted. I did this painting with my mom. She gave me a calendar and I cropped a Bouguereau (Mother Gazing At Her Child) and did my rendition. I abstracted the child's hands, foot, and the mother's hands which I like a lot. I also got to go to the North Carolina Art Museum in Raleigh and saw an original Bouguereau among other really wonderful and interesting pieces. They have a fabulous collection of Rodin pieces and an unusual and historic collection of Jewish Temple pieces along with a large modern art collection. I am getting proficient on crutches and even drove today!

This is part of a series of Farmers' Market paintings I am doing. The chef and his assistant are preparing gourmet tid-bits for hungry shoppers. In our area we have indoor markets all winter which is a real treat, but this image was from the open air market.

Bear Mountain Bakery oil 6x6 #227

This is part of my Farmers' Market Series. I was drawn to the three unique characters in this scene. There is something so personal about shopping in a small town Farmers' Market. The growers (in this case baker) are so caring about their product and so friendly.

Getting Perspective

I love this kind of painting...major foreshortening on the bodies...an odd angle....very abstract, and we still know what it is (at least I hope it is obvious)...it gives me joy to paint like this. #46

10th Avenue Fruit Stand

Painting is an interesting preoccupation. I do it alone, generally in a very quite environment and then post my work here. I communicate through painting and talking about it, but I feel like I just send it out into space and it floats around out there. Back to Earth, this couple is carefully deciding on blueberries or strawberries. #43

Street Musician

A street musician with his basket was perched outside the Met. I liked his artsy look with the hat and his shiny shoes and neat little set-up. #42
