I just got back from a workshop with Karin Jurick in NYC. One of our assignments was to do mug shots. I was so impressed with everyone's work and was humbled to be with such accomplished artists and great people.

This is my brother. I am struggling with these family portraits because there is so much family history and not just what each person looks like, but how our relationship is. I have a lot of respect for my brother and I think I emphasized my father's gene contribution in this portrait, although he really looks like my mom. I can see why other artists (Karin Jurick for example) chose to do mug shots!

This is my daughter who is very beautiful and as much fun as you can have when she is in touch with her inner child, but even as an infant she had a really serious side and had the ability to freeze a grown man in his steps when she gave her deeply brown-eyed stare.

After posting this I decided I didn't like the yellow background and changed it to red....what do you think?

Harry oil 4"x4" #281

Harry usually has just the hint of a smile all the time. He reserves his belly laughs for select moments, which makes them all the more contagious. He is the strongest person I know (literally...his biceps are the size of a football)and I love him so much. This is a gift to myself on Mother's Day as he is my "Chosen Child."

3 Pears

I am going to be attending a Carol Marine workshop soon so I thought I should practice doing some simple still lifes of fruit and plates and cups. I was really hungry when I did this one, so it was done super fast so I could eat one of the pears! I may have to try this method again! #60

Shopping Feet

I love doing feet. They tell a story in themselves. These feet look tired. They are spread wide to carry the weight. #56

IntersectiON (re-worked)

I am trying not to rework my paintings, but somethimes they just continue to bug me while they are drying and awaiting varnishing, framing, etc. That was the case with this one. The skirt on the left was lavenderish and I knew it just didn't have any punch, although I do really like the composition. So I took Karin Jurick's advice (well it was more like a comment) that the paintings need red. I like it a whole lot better. I am thinking yesterday's post also needs to be "fluffed" out with some richer colors in the redish/tan area. I really love the stories behind leg/foot paintings.
