Good Form

Day 7 of the 30 in 30 day challenge.  Again I covered the whole piece with paint only leaving little bits of the drawing showing.  I made up the background which was fun and allowed me to think more abstractly using patterns.  We have been having beautiful weather this summer and I know my golfing friends have made the most of it.  It has been really dry though, and I can't help but think that they must have watered the golf courses a lot.

Day 5 Slate 11"x14" - Skiing

I live in ski country so inevitably all local artists end up doing at least a few ski paintings.  Like any other subject, it helps if you actually ski and have an idea of how people use their bodies, even if it isn't the "correct" posture or ski position.  I am a very mediocre skier, but I know how much fun it is to get out on the slopes with incredible vistas and just glide down the mountain as fast as you safely can (I am very slow).  It will be fun to see if these are popular at the gallery on the mountain.  People like to take a piece of the local scene home with them.  I hope some take home a skier painted on slate.

Hole In One

I love it when people commemorate an important event by purchasing a piece of art.  Certainly getting a hole in one on the golf course counts as a significant point in time.  This is a gift from the purchaser, so if you recognize this guy, don't tell him!

A Good Day

It is cold enough for the brave to be out skiing today, but there are not a lot of trails open yet.  I love skiing.  It is invigorating, pushes me to my limits, and I think it is just breath taking to ride the lift up to the top of the mountain and see such grand vistas.  I have been wanting to do a series of ski paintings for a few years and I think I am finally ready to do it.

Jump or Hop 5"x7" oil #122

This woman has 3 active kids, owns and runs 5 restaurants with her husband, teaches water aerobics, runs marathons, has endless energy and looks like she is 20 years old. She also has a very cool (as in hip) and amiably approachable personality. She just can't figure out whether to tell her students to jump or hop (as far out of the water as they can get). I chose this pose because her hair was flying up. Her full front 2 piece bathing suit is just a bit up revealing her 6 pack belly. I like the wall lamp streaming light and the streaky windows. She really is a task master and it is amazing that we all keep coming to her classes, but it is because we love her! I have a lot of numbers in this message! This is the last piece of my PICO series.

Not In the Kitchen 8x8" oil

I have been painting lots of pale yellows...I wonder what that means? This woman is in her mid-fifties. She really is this pretty and this young looking. If she wasn't so nice we could easily hate her! She loves working out with the kettle ball (the weight) therefore she has her kettle in in the gym, "Not In the Kitchen." #98
